Your photographs

Photories keeps copies of the photographs you import in the app's storage on your device. It also stores information used to organize and render them, such as capture dates, titles, aging settings and frozen looks. Effects are created on your device. We do not upload your photographs, their titles or their capture dates to a Photories server, PostHog or RevenueCat.

You choose which photographs to import. Your operating system may retrieve an original from its cloud photo service before giving it to the app. Photories does not provide its own cloud-photo backup or sync service. On iOS, originals and collection information are eligible for device backup according to your settings; rebuildable thumbnails are excluded. Device/platform behavior can vary, and we do not guarantee recovery through an operating-system backup.

When you export or share a photograph, the destination you choose receives it under that destination's terms. An exported original can retain embedded information, including location if it was present in the source file. Temporary share files can remain until the app or operating system clears them. Keep a separate copy of photographs and exports that matter to you.

Usage information

Optional usage analytics is not enabled in this launch version. We do not send app usage events to PostHog. RevenueCat processes subscription information separately as described below.

Purchases and subscription access

The App Store handles payment and your store subscription. We use RevenueCat to verify purchases and make the appropriate features available. RevenueCat processes purchase and subscription records and a pseudonymous app customer identifier. This service is separate from optional usage sharing and is used for subscription operation and subscription reporting.

We do not ask RevenueCat to collect your name, email address or advertising identifiers, and we do not send it your photographs. The app does not collect your payment-card details. Apple handles payment information under its own policies.

The basis for processing needed to provide paid access is performance of the purchase/service contract. We also use subscription reporting to understand revenue and resolve purchase issues, relying on our legitimate interest in operating the service. We retain subscription records while needed to provide and restore purchased access, resolve pending refunds or disputes, and meet legal obligations. You can request deletion of records that are no longer needed. Financial records required for Dutch tax administration are generally retained for seven years; a different statutory period applies where required. This does not mean every app event is retained for seven years.

Restoring purchases restores eligible subscription access, not photographs previously stored on another device. Cancelling a subscription and requesting deletion of data are separate actions. Deleting the app does not cancel a store subscription.

Daily memories

If you enable daily memories, Photories checks the imported collection on your device and schedules local notifications when photographs match a calendar date in an earlier year. A notification can show the number of matching photographs and its date. Your device's lock-screen settings control who can see notification text.

We do not upload your photo collection to find these matches, and we do not operate a push-notification service for them. You can switch reminders off in the app or change permission in your device settings. We do not send optional usage analytics about reminders in this version.

Support and the website

If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your email, message and any support identifier or attachment. We use it to answer your request and handle related issues. Do not send photographs or other sensitive information unless it is necessary for the request. We do not receive your photo library merely because you ask for help.

Support information is retained as needed to resolve your request and any related follow-up, complaint or dispute. We review whether continued retention is necessary when closing a request; records needed for legal obligations or unresolved claims are kept for that purpose. Our basis is responding to your service request and, where applicable, our legitimate interest in resolving support issues and maintaining a reliable service. Information necessary to meet a legal obligation is processed on that basis.

Our website is served through Cloudflare's global network. Loading a page sends Cloudflare connection and request information such as your IP address, requested address, browser information and request time. Cloudflare processes technical and security data to deliver and protect the site under its privacy policy. We do not add website analytics, advertising cookies, contact forms or tracking pixels. There is no Photories website account. We rely on our legitimate interest in providing a secure, working website. Provider-managed technical records follow the provider's service and security retention rules; we do not maintain a separate visitor-log archive.

Providers and international processing

RevenueCat provides subscription processing, Zoho Mail provides our business email, and Cloudflare serves this website. Our Zoho mailbox uses its EU service. Providers may process data outside the European Economic Area for some operations, including in the United States; we do not promise EU-only processing.

The providers describe their applicable transfer arrangements, including Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, adequacy arrangements, in their processing terms: RevenueCat, Cloudflare and Zoho. Contact us for information about safeguards relevant to your data. We do not sell personal data.

Your choices and rights

Depending on your circumstances, you can request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of your personal data, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. We do not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you through automated profiling. European Commission: individual rights.

Contact privacy@appsolutelyhandy.nl to exercise your rights. For purchase records, include the subscription support identifier shown in the app if available. We may need limited information to verify and locate your records. If you have uninstalled the app or no longer have an identifier, we may not be able to connect pseudonymous records with your email; we will explain what we can do. You do not need to send your entire photo collection.

Local photographs are stored on your device, so we cannot remotely retrieve or erase that library for you. Use Remove from Photories in a photograph's menu or its viewer, then confirm Remove photo. This removes its collection entry and saved settings and deletes the app's original copy when it is no longer needed by another collection entry. If file cleanup cannot finish immediately, Photories retries when it can do so safely. The source in your device's photo library stays unchanged. Removal has no Undo.

Removal does not erase copies you exported, existing operating-system backups or records held by your app store. Certain remote records may need to be retained for a legal obligation, which we will explain when relevant.

You may complain to your local data-protection authority or the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens. Contact the Dutch authority.

Changes

We will update this policy when our practices change. If a change requires a new choice from you, we will ask before using your data for that optional purpose. The date above identifies the current version.
